HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio — Ouch.
Somebody who hit a Powerball jackpot worth $138 million after buying the winning lottery ticket at the Walmart Supercenter on Brandt Pike in Huber Heights has now missed their opportunity to claim the life-changing prize.
The Ohio Lottery says the ticket from July 3, 2024, has now expired after the winner failed to claim their prize by the deadline, which is 180 days after the drawing.
That deadline arrived on Dec. 30.
"All tickets have limited validation periods established by the Ohio Lottery Commission," according to the Ohio Lottery's site. "Present rules call for tickets to be cashed within 180 days of the drawing date, or 180 days from game closing (Scratch-Offs). For all EZPLAY Games, tickets must be cashed within 180 days of purchase."
The winning auto-pick ticket was purchased at the Walmart Supercenter at 7680 Brandt Pike in Huber Heights, which is near Dayton.
Winning numbers that night were 2, 26, 33, 55, 57 and Powerball 22.
“Had the winner come forward, they would have had the option to take the annuity prize payable over 30 years or the cash option prize of $65.8 million,” according to the Ohio Lottery.
So what happens now?
“Sales generated in Ohio that contributed to the jackpot go to the unclaimed prize fund, which becomes part of lottery profit to help support education in Ohio,” according to a press release from the Ohio Lottery. “Ohio will retain approximately $1.9 million.”
Here's a list of all the other Powerball prizes that were hit throughout Ohio during that drawing on July 3:
