MEBANE, N.C. — When we see someone experiencing homelessness, most of us admittedly would drive right on by... but not Kenan.
“Like I just noticed how like. How unfair it would be like how much stuff we have and how much stuff they don't have," said 9-year-old, Kenan Pollard.
One day, last Thursday to be exact, after seeing the homelessness issues in Alamance County, he had an idea.
"I had a lot of candy, like 10 pounds of it, and I started like just sorting them in like 5 packs in one bag for like $1 and it was surprisingly they gave a lot more money than we were expecting," said Kenan.
“He just brought it up one night right before bed. And it's like I don't know what I can do and then he decided selling candy sounded like a good idea," said Tiffany Pollard, Kenan's mother.
Tiffany posted her son’s heartfelt intention on Facebook and within a day the responses poured in.
“I felt encouraged for him to know that there are still people in the world that care about others and that he even as a nine-year-old can make a difference," said Tiffany.
Now, with a pocket full of candy turning to a pocketful of cash thanks to the magic of kindness, Kenan is taking his total of $333 to the Piedmont Rescue Mission of Alamance County this Tuesday.
”I think a lot of times we don't know how we can contribute like we see the need and it's just so big and we don't know how we could do anything, but sometimes just serving where we are, that makes a difference," said Tiffany.
