PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A local woman's very special birthday is getting us uplifted.
I want to take you back to the year 1916 — World War I saw major battles, Albert Einstein finished his theory of relativity, a movie ticket cost 7 cents and Daisy Rhem was born in Amelia, South Carolina. WUSA9 got to spend a little time with this special woman who now lives with her daughter in Prince George's County.
On Monday, Rhem turned 109 years old. During her life, this beautiful lady lived in Detroit, Charlotte and the Bronx before settling in Maryland with her daughter, Veronica Henry. Rhem raised six children and enjoys six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She loves to sew and cook and believes in treating people right.
“She'd always say you have to treat people kind, to eat right, she never smoke, she never drank, and that she'd always read her bible,” Henry said said.
Rhem says it another way. Simply put, “right living.”
Right living! We here at WUSA9 wish her a very happy 109th birthday!
