Longtime high school coach will lead the South Carolina Shrine Bowl Team in Saturday's annual showcase of talent from the Carolinas

Reggie Kennedy has worked at a number of area schools and that experience will be put to good use this week as he looks to guide the Sandlappers to a successful week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The 88th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas kicks off Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Spartanburg High School with Manning head football coach Reggie Kennedy leading the South Carolina contingent.

Kennedy, who served as the acting head coach in the 2007 Shrine Bowl, was the head coach of the South team in the 2016 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. He has 30 years of experience as a high school head coach with stops at Kingstreem Fairfield Central, Orangeburg-Wilkinson, Blythewood, Sumter and Irmo.

For the past six seasons, Kennedy has been in charge of the Manning program. The veteran has dealt with a changing roster as eight players are getting their college careers started early by taking part in bowl practice. Richland Northeast quarterback Will Wilson was in Raleigh this week. Westwide quarterback Cutter Woods has been in Columbia and South Florence defensive lineman Amare Adams has been working out with the Tigers in Clemson.

Kennedy understands the rationale behind those decisions and has assembled the best roster he can to take on the Tar Heels who are also missing some talented players as the state of North Carolina is hodling its state finals this week.
