FLORENCE, S.C. — Francis Marion University junior guard Jordan Simpson from Orangeburg-Wilkinson tallied 15 points, while freshman forward Alex Atkinson from Lower Richland chipped in 14 points as the Patriots defeated Erskine 79-73 in a Conference Carolinas men's basketball contest Saturday in Florence.
Atkinson also added eight rebounds off the bench for FMU.
Junior forward and former Gray Collegiate Academy standout Latavian Lawrence posted 10 points.
The Patriots improve to 6-10, 4-4 in the conference, while Erskine is now 6-11, 3-7 in Conference Carolinas.
In the women's game, FMU defeated Erskine 79-51. Freshman guard Kiara Croskey from Sumter tallied 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Sophomore center Trinity Delaney from A.C. Flora High School added 11 points.
Francis Marion improves to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play. Erskine is now 3-12, 2-8 in the league.
