COLUMBIA, S.C. — He spent $10 on a lottery ticket at a Broad River Road store. A South Carolina resident's next big purchase may be a house.
The South Carolina Education Lottery said a Midlands man won big after buying a Shimmering Riches ticket at the Broad River Mart on Broad River Road in Columbia. He said the number of zeros he saw on the ticket when he scratched it off caught him off guard. He'd just won $500,000.
He told lottery officials he was still shocked when he looked at his bank account. Now, he's got a new activity to add to this year's lottery plans: house hunting.
The Broad River Mart store received a $5,000 commission for selling the ticket. Three top prizes remain in the Shimmering Riches game, and the odds of winning are one in 1,128,000.
