KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say a three-hour standoff following a dispute in Kershaw County has ended with a death.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to the Ashley Creek Subdivision of Elgin around noon on Thursday due to a domestic dispute. The sheriff’s office said the male suspect presented a gun to the victim and a deputy, after which the deputy pulled the victim to safety.
The suspect then barricaded himself in his home, and negotiators and the Special Response Team were called in.
The sheriff’s office said multiple attempts were made to communicate with the suspect over three hours. When authorities obtained an arrest warrant and entered the home, they said they found the suspect dead. No law enforcement opened fire during the incident, and authorities are not searching for any suspects in the man’s death.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident per the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office’s standard procedure.
