LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Approximately 200 homes could be coming to a rural area in Lexington County.
Alongside a busy Edmund Highway is where the county could soon break ground, building 192 new homes.
The portion of land, between South Congaree and Red Bank, is up for discussion at the county's planning commission meeting on Thursday.
News 19 reached out to the county, which didn't provide an interview but, in an email, said:
“It is very early into the potential development review process and no formal development approvals will be made at the planning commission tomorrow. The agenda item is to present information from a local school district to the planning commission for the commissioners to review and make a formal recommendation to council."
News 19 also reached out to Lexington School District Two, which serves the area. A representative says the district submitted information on how the development might affect the schools it is zoned for.
According to county documents provided in the meeting’s agenda, each lot for the development would be about 9,000 square feet. The development would also have two 3-acre ponds on each side.
The county says if approved by council, the developer can submit the proper paperwork and plans to seek development approval, which ultimately may change portions of the development.
The planning commission will take up this matter at their meeting at 9 am Thursday morning.
