ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two individuals following a carjacking incident on Monday evening.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell praised the swift actions of his deputies and the cooperation of the victim, saying, “Within an hour or so, we had one suspect in custody, another shortly after, and the victim’s car recovered. This was just good work on part of the deputies and the assistance of the victim.”

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Jayshawn Tilley of Orangeburg and 37-year-old Wilbert Moody of Denmark, now face multiple charges. Tilley has been charged with carjacking, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a weapon by a person convicted of certain crimes, and possession of a stolen pistol. Moody is charged with carjacking and accessory to a felony.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. at a North Road convenience store. The victim reported being approached by a man wielding a handgun while she was refueling her car. The suspect demanded her vehicle and fled the scene.

Investigators rapidly identified the suspects and located the victim’s car. By just after 8 p.m., Tilley was apprehended, though he briefly escaped custody while receiving a medical examination. He was recaptured within minutes. Moody was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Both individuals could face up to 20 years in prison for the carjacking charges alone.
