ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A house fire in Orangeburg on Thursday afternoon was started by a grass fire, according to the Orangeburg Fire Department in a statement on Facebook.
Orangeburg firefighters arrived on the scene just four minutes after dispatch, finding flames consuming an exterior wall of a single-story home. The fire had spread beneath the structure and into the attic.
Crews quickly forced entry to combat the blaze and conducted a primary search, confirming the home was unoccupied.
The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety (DPS) Fire Department, with assistance from Jamison Fire Department, Cordova Fire Department, and the Orangeburg County Fire District, tackled the structure fire on Riggs Street.


Flames were under control within approximately 25 minutes, crews remained on site to extinguish lingering hot spots.
Officials believe the fire began as a grass fire that spread to the residence.
The cause has been deemed accidental.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the home was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
