Irmo chase leads to crash and arrests in Lexington

Two men face charges after a police chase from Irmo ends in a crash near Lexington. No injuries were reported.

IRMO, S.C. — Two men are facing charges after Irmo Police say they ran from a traffic stop and crashed in Lexington on Saturday.

Police said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. when an Irmo officer saw a Lincoln Town Car with an apparent vehicle license violation in the 1300 block of Lake Murray Boulevard and attempted to pull it over. The car initially pulled into the Kroger parking lot but drove in circles and didn't stop. When the vehicle returned to Lake Murray Boulevard, police began pursuing it. The chase took officers across the Lake Murray Dam toward Lexington before the pursued car crashed into another vehicle while trying to make a right turn.

The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Joshua D. Riley of Orangeburg, was arrested immediately after the crash. The passenger, 39-year-old Daion A. Bowers of Columbia, initially ran but was taken into custody a short time later with help from Lexington police.

Riley was charged with having an expired temporary tag, reckless driving, a second offense of failure to stop for blue lights, a first offense of driving under suspension, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, open container and simple possession of marijuana.

Bowers was charged with interfering and resisting. Police said he was also wanted by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Pardon and Parole Services and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
